Ignition switch and engine start

The key in the ignition switch can be in 4 positions.

LOCK - the steering wheel is locked and the electrical power is disconnected.

The ignition key can only be inserted and removed in this position.

ACC - OFF - steering wheel unlocked, electrical power on.

ON - ignition is on. On a vehicle with a diesel engine, engine preheating is enabled.

Warnings:
  • Do not leave keys in a car with children in it, but keep them in a place where children cannot find or play with them. Leaving children and keys in a vehicle is dangerous and could result in serious injury or death. Children may unknowingly activate switches and controls or even set the car in motion. Children left unattended can cause serious accidents.
  • Driving with the engine off is dangerous because it increases the braking distance and requires more force to be applied to the brake pedal, which could lead to an accident. Also, more force will be required to turn the steering wheel.
  • While driving, never attempt to reach the ignition key or other controls by placing your hand inside the steering wheel. Failure to follow this warning may result in loss of control of the brakes and steering, resulting in an emergency.
  • Do not place loose objects near the driver's seat to prevent them from moving and causing an emergency situation.

Unlocking the steering wheel

Unlocking the steering wheel

To lock the steering wheel, turn the key in the ignition switch to the LOCK position, remove the key from the ignition switch and turn the steering wheel until it locks.

In a vehicle with an automatic transmission, the key can only be removed from the ignition switch after the selector lever is in position P.

If the ignition key does not turn from the LOCK position, this may be due to pressure from the steering shaft on the anti-theft device lock. To turn the key, turn the steering wheel left and right to remove pressure on the lock and turn the key at the same time

Warning: Never remove the key from the ignition switch while the vehicle is moving, as this will lock the steering column, which could result in loss of control and damage to the vehicle or injury to passengers.
