Clutch — adjustment (Opel Ascona C)

1. The clutch is self-adjusting under normal conditions, however, after replacing the cable or driven disc, the following preliminary adjustment must be made.



2. Measure the distance from the edge of the steering wheel to the center of the clutch pedal with the pedal released and pressed. Measurements can be made using anything, since you are interested in the difference between the two obtained values, i.e. the clutch pedal travel. This difference should be 138 mm. If you get a different value, you need to adjust the pedal stroke using the nut located at the end of the cable where it connects to the clutch release lever. Before making any adjustments, remove the spring clamp from the cable and reinstall it when finished. Check the pedal stroke again (see figure 5.1 and 5.2).



3. Over time, it becomes impossible to adjust the pedal travel in this way, which is a sign that the clutch disc needs to be replaced. Please note that a properly adjusted clutch pedal should be higher than the brake pedal. If they are located at the same height, then the clutch is not adjusted correctly. Please also note that the models in question should not have a free play clutch pedal.
