Contactless Ignition Systems (All Models) — Precautions (Opel Ascona C)

            0

1. In order not to damage the components of the contactless (electronic) ignition systems, in addition to the usual precautions against electric shock, the following precautions should be observed:
  • a. The resistance of the coil windings should be measured with the ignition off.
  • b. Do not connect the ohmmeter (or any other device with its own voltage source) to the system's Hall sensor.
  • c. Do not charge the battery in fast mode and do not use a voltage source with a nominal voltage greater than 16 V for "jump starting".
  • g. Do not use the system with an ignition coil of a type other than that recommended in the Specifications.
  • d. Do not connect RFI suppression capacitors or test lamps to terminal 1 of the coil.
  • e. Do not ground terminal 1 of the coil or connect it to the positive terminal of the battery.
  • g. If necessary, turn off the ignition system (for example when checking compression) ground the coil high voltage wire or disconnect the plug from the control unit.

2. Please be aware that some types of tachometers may occasionally give incorrect readings when used with this type of system. This is not a sign of a faulty ignition system.
