1. Installed starter motor designs are reliable and strong, so it is very unlikely that you will need to disassemble the motor unless it is very worn and needs to be completely replaced.
2. However, if the motor has only been running for about 2 years and you suspect a problem with the gear mechanism, solenoid system or brushes, then you will have to remove the motor from the engine and disassemble it as described in the following Sections.
