Checking the fuel level in the float chamber
The position of the float in the float chamber is not adjustable. If a malfunction is detected, check the tightness of the float and the condition of the needle valve, replace the defective parts.
Engine idle adjustment
Before adjusting the engine idle, perform the following operations:
- make sure the air damper is fully open,
- warm up the engine. To do this, let the engine run at about 2000 rpm until the thermostat opens. In no case should you warm up the engine at idle, because if the engine runs for several minutes at idle, then the measurements of the carbon monoxide content in the exhaust gases will be distorted;
- check the cleanliness of the air filter element and replace it with a new one if necessary (do not remove the air filter when adjusting the engine idle);
- check the operation of the ignition system and the setting of the ignition timing,
- check for air leaks, paying special attention to the connection of vacuum hoses and the condition of the gasket of the throttle body;
- make sure that there are no significant exhaust gas leaks in the exhaust tract;
- make sure that powerful current consumers (electric fan of the engine cooling system, headlights, rear window heating element, etc.) off.
Set the engine speed with the adjusting screw for the amount of mixture «13S» on cars with a manual gearbox within 900-950 rpm, on cars with automatic transmission 800-850 rpm, and the engine «16SV» respectively within 900-950 and 800-850 rpm. Engine speed «14NV» should be in the range of 900-950 rpm.
Connect the gas analyzer according to the instructions.
Remove the plug of the quality adjusting screw (composition) mixture and, turning it, to achieve the CO content in the exhaust gases in the range of 1.0-1.5% for the engine «13S» and 0.5-1.5% for engines «16SV» And «14NV».
If necessary, restore the specified idle speed of the engine crankshaft with the mixture amount adjusting screw.
Repeat these operations until the specified values of the crankshaft speed and CO content are obtained.
After adjustment, replace the cap of the quality adjustment screw (composition) mixtures.
Engine fast idle adjustment
Fast idle adjustment is performed on a warm engine (oil temperature not less than 70°С), with correctly set ignition timing and adjusted idling.
Install adjusting screw 1 (see photo) fast idle on the second, upper, profile 2 throttle control cams.
Start the engine without depressing the accelerator pedal.
Check the speed of the crankshaft at fast idle, which for the engine «13S» on cars with a manual gearbox should be within 2100-2500 rpm, on cars with automatic transmission 2400-2800 rpm, for the engine «16SV» respectively 2000-2400 and 2500-2900 rpm. Engine fast idle mode «14NV should be between 2200-2600 rpm. If necessary, set the required mode of accelerated idling of the engine with the adjusting screw 1.
Checking and adjusting the starting clearance of the air damper
Remove the automatic starter cover.
Close the choke and install the fast idle adjusting screw on the top profile of the throttle control cam.
Disconnect the vacuum hose from the air damper actuator.
Connect the vacuum pump hose to the pneumatic actuator fitting and create a vacuum of about 0.3 kg/cm using the pump2.
Raise the choke lever. In this position, use a rod or drill to measure the starting gap of the air damper, which must be within the limits indicated in section «Design and specifications». If necessary, adjusting screw 1 (see photo) set the required clearance.
Disconnect the air pump from the air damper actuator and connect a vacuum hose to the pneumatic actuator.
Replace the automatic starter cover, aligning the marks on it and the carburetor body.
Checking and adjusting the throttle valve starting clearance
Remove carburetor.
Install adjusting screw 1 (see photo) fast idle to the top profile of the throttle control cam. In this position, use a rod or drill to measure the throttle starting gap, which should be 0.8 mm for the engine carburetor «16SV» on vehicles with manual transmission and 1.25 mm on vehicles with automatic transmission. for engine carburetor «14NV» the starting clearance of the throttle valve should be within 0.8-0.9 mm. If necessary, use the adjusting screw 1 to achieve the desired clearance.
Install the carburetor, check and, if necessary, adjust the engine speed at fast idle.
Throttle opening adjustment of the 2nd chamber
The throttle position of the 2nd chamber is adjusted at the factory, but in case of misadjustment, it can be restored on a previously removed carburetor as follows:
- fully open the throttle valve of the 1st chamber and fix it in this position. inserting a drill between the edge of the damper and the carburetor body;
- tighten the throttle lock lever of the 2nd chamber with an elastic band;
- unscrew the restrictive screw of the throttle valve of the 2nd chamber so that it moves away from the stop. Then screw in the limit screw so that it barely touches the stop,
- tighten the limit screw another ¼ turn and lock it in this position;
- return the throttle valve of the 1st chamber to the closed position;
- install the carburetor.
Checking the tightness of the pneumatic actuator of the air damper
Remove the air filter and disconnect the vacuum hoses from the air damper actuator.
Plug the lower outlet pipe of the pneumatic actuator.
Connect the hose of the manual vacuum pump to the upper outlet pipe of the pneumatic actuator and create a vacuum of 0.3 kg / cm3 in the pneumatic actuator with a pump3. If the vacuum does not remain unchanged, the pneumatic actuator must be replaced.
Checking and adjusting the performance of the accelerator pump
Remove carburetor.
Rotate profiled cam 1 (see photo) throttle control so. so that the fast idle adjusting screw 2 moves away from it.
Place a graduated vessel with a funnel under the carburetor.
Slowly fully open and close the throttle valve of the 1st chamber ten times, thereby activating the accelerator pump (in this case, the fuel must exit the pump nozzle every time for at least 3 s).
Determine the amount of fuel leaked into the vessel: for an engine carburetor «13S» it should be within 12.0-15.0 cm3, for engine carburetor «16SV» models 90 107 522 - within 10.5-13.5 cm3, and models 90 107 523 - 7.5-13.5 cm3, for engine carburetor «14NV» - 10.5-13.5 cm3. If the performance of the pump does not correspond to this, loosen the locking screw 3 and turn the pump drive cam to set the required performance. Turning the cam to the left increases the pump output and vice versa. After adjustment, tighten locking screw 3 and lock it with a special varnish.
