Carefully pinch the rings over the piston surface and use two or three feeler gauges from the old kit to slide them under the rings to remove them (see photo).
Scrape off any carbon deposits from the top of the piston. With a hand wire brush or a piece of emery cloth, work the surface after most of the carbon has been removed with a scraper.
Remove carbon deposits from the piston ring grooves with the old ring. To do this, break the ring into two halves (be careful not to cut your fingers).
After removing carbon deposits, the piston/connecting rod assembly should be flushed with kerosene or an appropriate solvent and thoroughly wiped. Make sure. that the holes in the annular grooves of the oil scraper rings are not clogged.
If the piston and cylinder surfaces are not damaged or excessively worn, and if the cylinder block does not need to be rebored, old pistons can be installed.
Carefully inspect each piston for cracks in the skirt, piston pin bore bosses, and piston webs between the ring grooves.
Piston corrosion in the form of dots indicates that. that the refrigerant flows into the combustion chamber and / or into the engine crankcase and again the cause must be eliminated, or the problem will recur on the repaired engine.
Check the clearance between the piston and the cylinder wall by measuring the cylinder diameter and the piston diameter. Measure the piston along the bottom of the skirt at a 90 degree angle to the piston pin. If the resulting gap is greater than specified in the specification. the block must be bored and new pistons and rings installed.
On engines with a single camshaft, check the installation of the piston pin by turning the piston and connecting rod in different directions. Any noticeable runout indicates excessive wear that needs to be compensated for.
On engines with two camshafts, the piston pin circlips must be checked and replaced if necessary.
Inspect the mating surfaces of the large connecting rod caps.
Visually check the installation of the connecting rods; if there are deviations from the norm, it is necessary to give them to specialists for a thorough check.
