Connecting rods
1. Clean connecting rods in solvent and dry with compressed air.
Attention. When using compressed air, goggles must be worn to prevent foreign particles from entering the eyes.
2. Check connecting rods for:
- visible twisting or bending, cracks or thinning;
- scratches or abrasion on the connecting rod bearing mounting surfaces.
Pistons
1. Clean the piston with solvent. Do not use a brush with hard bristles to clean the piston.
2. Clean the grooves for the piston rings.
3. Check the piston for:
- cracks in the grooves of the piston rings, on the skirt or bosses;
- thinning of the grooves of the piston rings;
- eroded areas of the piston crown (1);
- piston skirt damage (2);
- excessive wear of the piston pin bores (3).
4. If any defects are found, replace the piston with a new one.
5. Measure the clearance between the piston pin and the bore in the piston.
