Removing
Engage the handbrake, then raise the front of the vehicle and secure it to stands under the bridge.
If necessary, remove the ABS wheel sensor from the hub support bracket (see chapter 9) and disconnect the wire.
Remove the bracket (caliper) brakes from the hub support bracket as specified in chapter 9. The bracket can be swung aside and hung up so as not to disconnect the hydraulic hose.
Loosen and remove the lock nut from the tie rod strut pivot joint.
Using a swivel splitter, separate the strut swivel from the tie rod.
Remove the cotter pin from the castle nut of the hub located at the end of the drive shaft (axle shafts), and loosen it. The nut is very tight, so you will need an extension wrench. To prevent the drive shaft from turning, insert two bolts of the road wheel and a metal bar between them.
Remove the hub nut and washer from the drive shaft.
Remove the cotter pin, then remove the castle nut that secures the suspension strut pivot to the lower arm.
Using the swivel release tool, disengage the suspension strut swivel from the lower control arm.
Remove the end of the drive shaft from the hub. This can probably be done by hand, but if necessary, tap lightly on the end of the shaft with a soft-shelled hammer. Do not hit the input shaft hard, as this may damage the input shaft. Hang the shaft from something - the drive shaft must not be allowed to sag under its own weight.
Working in the engine compartment, unscrew the two nuts securing the suspension strut to the head. The stand can be removed from the car (pic. 10.4).
Remove suspension strut/hub support assembly kit from vehicle (pic. 10.5.).
Installation
Position the upper end of the suspension strut in the head, then install the nuts and tighten them as required.
Apply some grease containing molybdenum disulphide to the splines of the input shaft, then insert the end of the shaft into the hub. Install a new washer and tighten the new hub nut by hand.
Connect the suspension strut swivel to the lower arm, then install the castle nut and tighten it as required. insert a new pin.
Tighten the new hub nut in stages as specified in the specification. Install a new pin.
Connect the tie rod to the suspension strut and tighten the new lock nut to specification.
Install the brake caliper to the hub support as directed in chapter 9.
If necessary, install the ABS sensor on the wheel hub support (see chapter 9) and connect the wire.
Place the road wheel, lower the car to the ground.
After that, check and, if necessary, adjust the wheel setting, as indicated below in the appropriate section of this chapter.
