Warning! Shock absorber struts and springs should be replaced in pairs, even if one is defective.
To complete the work you will need:
- car stand;
- jack;
- special tool for loosening the shock absorber rod nut (instead of a fixture, you can use a high 18 mm socket head with turnkey flats) or 18 mm z-key and T30 TORX key.
Removing
1. We prepare the car for work (see «Preparing the car for maintenance and repair»).
2. Open the hood and remove the protective cap of the upper rack mount.
3. While holding the shock absorber rod with a TORX T30 wrench, loosen the nut of the upper fastening of the yoke with an 18 mm wrench.
4. We raise the car and place it on a stand.
5. Remove the front wheel (see «Wheel - replacement»).
6. Using pliers, remove the locking bracket and remove the brake hose from the rack bracket.
7. On vehicles equipped with ABS, we remove the wiring harness for the wheel speed sensor from the rack bracket.
8. Disconnect the anti-roll bar from the shock absorber (see «Front anti-roll bar - strut replacement»).
9. Using an 18 mm wrench, unscrew the nuts of the bolts securing the steering knuckle to the rack, holding the bolts from turning with a second wrench of the same size.
10. Finally unscrew the nut of the upper mount of the rack and remove the thrust washer.
11. We remove the bolts securing the rack to the steering knuckle and remove the rack assembly from the car.
Installation
Install the stand in reverse order. Fastening nuts and bolts are tightened to the prescribed torques (see «Reference data»).
