Static imbalance is already apparent when the wheel is allowed to swing freely on a raised car: the center of gravity spontaneously turns down. A wheel that has only a statistical imbalance bounces when moving.
Dynamic unbalance appears only when the wheel is rotating. This is the case when the outweighing place is not located in the middle plane of the wheel, but is shifted slightly outward or inward. Then the wheel not only bounces, but also sways.
Wheel balancing
Wheels must be statically and dynamically balanced. There are two methods for this: О The wheel of the machine is removed and screwed onto the balancing machine. There it rotates to check. Thanks to this, information is obtained about the imbalance, which is leveled by adding lead weights.
Precise balancing is required to eliminate residual imbalance. This equalizes the imbalance of the wheel hub and the brake disc. The wheels mounted on the machine are driven at the desired speed by the engine (ahead) or electric motor with friction wheel (behind) and show the residual imbalance. It is again leveled with lead weights.
If a wheel that is in good condition and balanced on the vehicle is to be remounted, for example after a brake test, it must be screwed onto the hub in the same place. To do this, mark the mounting position on the rim (1) and hub (2) as shown here.
Static and dynamic imbalance in different situations:
1 - purely static imbalance;
2 - the static imbalance is leveled out if weights of 100 g are placed on both sides of the rim;
3 - only on one side of the rim there is a sinker weighing 200 g, this gives a dynamic imbalance;
4 - the imbalance is leveled, but there is no balance in a crosswise manner - the wheel sways;
5 - when the wheel is spinning, the dynamic imbalance always pulls towards the centerline and as a result wobbles the wheel.
Tip: Precise balancing is especially recommended on the Vectra's front wheels. There, even the smallest imbalance is felt in the steering wheel. Balancing the rear wheels of the car is generally not needed.
Winter tires
Summer tires are prone to spinning on snow and ice. Depending on the application and the available summer tires, it is not always possible to do without purchasing special winter tires.
No matter what tires you drive, always remember that at temperatures near freezing, smooth ice forms a film of water when driving on it, which dangerously reduces the traction of even the best winter tires.
With the Vectra, you have the choice between traditional M+S tyres, which can be used at speeds up to 160 km/h, or more expensive high-speed tires with a speed limit of up to 190 km/h. Anyone who drives class Q winter tires should place a note somewhere on the dashboard about the permissible maximum speed of 160 km / h (available from tire dealer or workshop).
In terms of dimensions, for winter tyres, we recommend the narrowest possible model. This is also related to the price: narrower tires are cheaper than wide ones. With the money saved, suitable rims are immediately bought, because. regular rewiring in spring and fall will cost more over time.
M + S tires with a profile depth of less than 4 mm are no longer suitable for winter use. If the use of winter tires is prescribed somewhere in the mountains, then M + S tires are recognized as such only if their profile depth is at least 4 mm.
Tire valves (1) must always be covered with protective caps (3, 5 or 6). otherwise dirt will penetrate and the needle will jam (2) valve that is no longer hermetically sealed. Practical caps (3) valves, which can be simultaneously used to unscrew the valve insert, as shown in the photo. Although, due to sharp edges, they must be protected by rubber caps (4).
The white notches show where the tire touches the ground. The more in this place the chain is adjacent to the road, the better. From left to right you see: ladder chain, zigzag chain, cruciform chain, longitudinal cruciform chain, edging chain.
Disposal of old tires
Old tires should not just be thrown in the trash. When garbage is taken out, they are also not taken away. depending on the method, old tires are either cut up and disposed of further, or incinerated in special facilities. How to get rid of old tires?
There are different possibilities: depending on the local authority, the city construction site or the landfill functions as a collection point. In any case, the tire seller will take the old tires. But everywhere you will have to pay a small amount for getting rid of tires.
