General information about 1.7 liter engine repair (Opel Vectra B)

            0

Diesel engine with a working volume of 1686 cm³ with eight overhead valves, four cylinders and one camshaft installed in the cylinder head. The engine is mounted transversely on the front side of the car together with the gearbox.

The crankshaft has five bearings and is secured against axial movement by thrust half rings, which are installed on the second main bearing.

The pistons are connected to the connecting rods by piston pins, which are fixed in the pistons by retaining rings.

The camshaft, mounted on bearings in the cylinder head, is driven by a toothed belt from the crankshaft and operates the valves via tappets and adjusting plates.

Lubrication is provided by an oil pump, which is driven by a toothed belt and draws oil through a mesh filter located in the oil pan. The pump delivers oil through an externally mounted full-flow oil filter.
