Removing
1. Raise the rear of the car and secure it on stands. Remove the wheel.
2. Fully release the handbrake.
3. Unscrew the brake drum fastening screw and remove the drum. The drum may be difficult to remove from the hub due to corrosion of the hub or due to the fact that it is held by the brake pads. In the first case, to remove the drum from the hub, tap on the perimeter of the drum with a plastic hammer or a wooden mallet. In the second case, remove the plug from the inspection hole of the brake shield and move the hand brake lever to its original position, as a result of which the brake shoes will be removed from the brake drum, and the brake drum should be easily removed.
Examination
1. Be careful to clean the inside of the brake drum of brake dust and dirt.
2. Clean the outer surface of the brake drum and check for obvious signs of wear or damage, cracks around the wheel bolt holes. Replace drum if necessary.
3. Check the inside of the brake drum. Slight wear of the drum from the action of the pads is normal.
Installation
1. Check that the handbrake lever is fully released.
2. Install the brake drum and secure with the screw. If necessary, reduce the length of the brake pad adjuster bar by turning the bar adjuster wheel.
3. Depress the brake pedal several times to activate the brake pad clearance adjustment mechanism.
4. Install the wheel and lower the car.
