Removal
1. Depressurize the fuel system (Chapter 8), then remove and reinstall the fuel tank filler cap to equalize the pressure inside and outside the tank
2. Disconnect the negative battery terminal
3. Tilt the rear seat cushion forward. Fold back the floor covering below the seat, then remove the cover from the floor to access the pump mountings (see illustration).

4. Having accurately marked the connections, disconnect the electrical wiring from the pump
5. Release the retaining clip, disconnect the fuel supply hose from the pump. Pinch or plug the hose to prevent fuel loss and dirt from entering.
6. Loosen the screws of the pump mounting bracket, then remove the mounting bracket and pump assembly from the tank. Note the position of the O-ring, and discard it, then cover the open hole for the block in the tank to prevent dirt from entering.
7. If the pump needs to be replaced, first do the following.
8. Remove the filter at the base of the pump assembly, then loosen the retaining clamp and disconnect the fuel supply hose from the pump mounting bracket
9. After making marks, unsolder the wires connecting the pump to the mounting bracket.
10. Press the pump out of the rubber bushing
Installation
11. Assembly and installation are carried out in the reverse order of disassembly and removal. But pay attention to the following.
- a) Make sure that the pump is correctly positioned in the sleeve and that the hose is securely fastened.
- b) Connect and solder the wires correctly.
- c) Always replace the pump mounting bracket O-ring.
- d) Apply a few drops of sealant (Opel #90485251) to the screw threads, then tighten them securely, but be careful not to distort the O-ring.
