Removing
1. Depressurize the fuel system (Chapter 8), then remove and reinstall the fuel filler cap to equalize the pressure inside and outside the tank
2. Disconnect the negative battery terminal
3. Tilt the rear seat cushion forward. Fold back the floor covering below the seat, then remove the cover from the floor to access the pump mounts (see illustration).
4. Accurately noting the connections, disconnect the electrical wiring from the pump
5. Release the fixing bracket, disconnect the fuel supply hose from the pump. Pinch or plug the hose to prevent loss of fuel and entry of dirt.
6. Remove the pump mounting bracket screws, then remove the pump mounting bracket and assembly from the tank. Note the position of the o-ring and discard it then cover the open hole for the block in the tank to prevent dirt from entering.
7. If the pump needs to be replaced, do the following first.
8. Remove the filter at the base of the pump assembly, then loosen the mounting clip and disconnect the fuel supply hose from the pump mounting bracket
9. Having made preliminary marks, unsolder the wires connecting the pump to the mounting bracket.
10. Press the pump out of the rubber bushing
Installation
11. Assembly and installation are carried out in reverse disassembly and removal of the sequence. But pay attention to the following.
- A) Ensure that the pump is correctly positioned in the sleeve and that the hose is securely fastened.
- b) Connect and solder the wires correctly.
- c) Always replace the O-ring on the pump mounting bracket.
- d) Apply a few drops of sealant (Opel №90485251) onto the threads of the screws, then tighten them securely, taking care not to distort the O-ring.
