Note: Before you begin, see. Chapter 2. Use a new manifold gasket when installing.
Removal
1. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.
2. Drain the cooling system as described in Section 3.
3. Proceed as described in Chapter 13, points 2-7 inclusive.
4. Disconnect the coolant hose at the rear of the manifold (see illustration)

5. Where applicable, disconnect the breather hose running from the camshaft cover to the rear of the manifold (see illustration).

6. Unscrew the coupling, disconnect the brake booster vacuum hose from the manifold.
7. On 1.4 and 1.6 liter models, disconnect the electrical wiring from the temperature gauge sensor.
8. Unscrew and remove the upper generator mounting nut and bolt.
9. On 1.4 and 1.6 litre models, disconnect and remove the hose that connects the crankcase breather pipe to the rear of the camshaft housing.
10. Make a final check to ensure all relevant hoses, pipes and wires are disconnected.
11. Unscrew the fastening nuts, remove the manifold from the cylinder head (see illustration). Note the position of the rear engine lift bracket, which is secured by one of the manifold nuts, remove the manifold gasket.

12. Some manifold struts may unscrew from the cylinder head when the mounting nuts are loosened. In this case, the struts must be screwed back into the cylinder head as soon as the manifold is removed, using two locking nuts.
13. If required, the carburetor can be removed from the manifold, following the instructions as necessary Chapter 13.
Installation
14. Perform installation in reverse order, paying attention to the following.
15. If the carburetor was removed from the manifold, reinstall it using a new gasket.
16. If the generator mounting bracket has been unscrewed from the manifold, install it before installing the manifold, since once the manifold is installed, access to the mounting bolt is very limited.
17. Install the manifold using a new gasket. Remember to reattach the engine lift bracket. Tighten the nuts to the specified torque Specifications.
18. Check that all relevant hoses, pipes and wires are connected correctly.
19. Fill the cooling system as described in Section 3.
