2. Using a screwdriver, disconnect the end of the cable fastening from the handle side.
3. Working from inside the vehicle, pull the hood release handle and its retainer assembly sharply rearward to disengage the retainer tab from the slot in the body (see photo 7.3).

4. Route the cable assembly through the cap in the engine compartment and into the engine compartment.
5. Install the new cable by reversing the steps for removing the old cable, then adjust the cable so that it does not sag by changing the position of the cable mount at the clamp on the upper runner.
6. The cable should open the hood with a slight push on the control handle. If this is not the case, check the installation of the latch fork as described in previous Section.
7. Apply a small amount of grease to the skid and the latch fork.
