Don't give full throttle.
Do not force the engine to run at low speeds.
Drive your car by shifting gears more often. In all gears, depress the accelerator pedal no more than 3/4 of the way.
Do not drive faster than the maximum speed.
During the first 200 km, do not resort to emergency braking unless absolutely necessary.
Do not drive with the engine off.
Many devices don't work (e.g. brake booster, power steering). You are endangering yourself and others.
Brake booster
When the engine is off, after one or two presses of the brake pedal, the effect of the brake booster is terminated. Braking performance is not reduced, but much more force is required to brake.
Electric Power Steering
If the power steering is switched off, for example, when the vehicle is towed with the engine switched off, the vehicle will still be steerable, but this will require much more effort.
Riding in the mountains, driving with a trailer
The cooling blower is powered by an electric drive. Thus, the cooling efficiency does not depend on engine speed. Since high engine speeds generate more heat and less heat at low speeds, you should not downshift on hills until the engine climbs uphill without problems in a higher gear. Diesel engines: on slopes of 10% or more, do not exceed 30 km/h in 1st gear and 50 km/h in 2nd gear.
Riding with a load on the roof
Do not exceed the permissible roof load. For safety reasons, load should be evenly distributed and strapped securely to prevent it from shifting. Maintain tire pressure according to vehicle load. Do not exceed speed of 120 km/h. Frequently check the security of the luggage and tighten it.
Engine shutdown
After turning off the engine, the blowers in the engine compartment continue to work for some time to cool the units. If the coolant temperature is very high, e.g. after driving in mountains: leave the engine idling for about 2 minutes to avoid heat accumulation.
Vehicles with turbocharged engines
After driving at a high engine speed or high engine load, to protect the turbocharger, run the engine before shutting down under low load or for about 30 seconds at idle.
Forced idle
The fuel supply is automatically switched off in over idle mode, for example, when descending or braking. Do not depress the accelerator pedal or disengage the clutch while over idle to ensure effective traction disengagement. To protect against catalytic converter damage, the traction shutdown is periodically deactivated when the catalyst temperature is high.
Vehicles with turbocharged engines
If the accelerator pedal is released quickly, air currents in the turbocharger can generate airborne noises.
Rotation frequency
Each gear should be driven at as low engine speeds as possible.
Warming up the engine while driving
Warm up the engine while driving, not idling. Do not give full throttle until operating temperature has been reached. The automatic transmission and the Easytronic transmission upshift at higher revs after a cold start. In this way, the catalyst quickly reaches the temperature required for optimal reduction of harmful emissions in the exhaust.
Do not overload the engine at idle and low gears. When driving at too high speeds in certain gears or driving modes, as well as when driving for short distances, wear and fuel consumption increase.
Reverse gear shift
Shift back if the speed drops - do not leave the clutch in contact at high engine speeds. This is especially important when riding in the mountains.
Always fully depress the clutch to avoid shifting problems and damage to the transmission. When driving, do not use the clutch pedal as a foothold, as this will increase clutch wear.
Cooling airflow
The blower fan is controlled by a thermal switch and therefore operates only when required.
Pedals
Do not place any objects in the lower space that could roll under the pedals and thereby restrict its movement. To ensure full pedal travel, it is forbidden to put mats in their area.
Battery
When driving slowly and when the vehicle is stationary, e.g. when driving slowly in the city, when driving short distances and in a traffic jam, switch off electrical consumers as far as possible (e.g. heated rear window, heated front seats).
Depress the clutch when starting the engine so as not to stress the starter and battery.
