Gearbox indicator
The indication of the mode and the gear engaged is shown on the display.
Engine start
The engine can only be started when the brake pedal is depressed. The transmission indicator shows the N icon. When the brake pedal is not depressed, the N icon flashes.
It is not necessary to switch to neutral before starting the engine. Even when a gear is engaged, the gearbox automatically shifts to neutral before starting the engine. Because of this, a slight delay in starting the engine is possible.
Operation of the Easytronic gearbox with the gear lever
The shift lever must always move in each direction as far as it will go. After each operation, it automatically returns to the middle position, so you need to follow the gear / mode indication on the transmission indicator.
Starting a car
Depress the brake pedal, release the parking brake, move the shift lever to position A. The Easytronic system will switch to automatic mode and select first gear (with winter mode on - second gear). A1 symbol will be displayed on the transmission indicator (with winter mode on - A2).
This also occurs when the gear lever is moved to the + or - position for the first time after starting the engine with the brake pedal depressed.
When the brake is released, the car will start moving.
It is also possible to start off without applying the brakes by depressing the accelerator pedal immediately after moving the shift lever. If you do not press it, the transmission will not turn on (symbol A will flash). Shift the shift lever to position N and start driving by applying the brake and then moving the shift lever to position A.
In automatic mode, gear changes are performed automatically depending on road conditions.
Switching between automatic and manual mode
In manual mode, gears are shifted manually. The transmission indicator shows the letter M and the selected gear.
If the engine speed is too low, the Easytronic gearbox shifts down automatically even in manual mode. This prevents the engine from stalling.
Gear change mode
If a higher gear is selected when the speed is insufficient, or a lower gear is selected if the speed is too high, the shift will not take place. This prevents too low or too high speed.
By repeatedly moving the shift lever at short intervals, gears can be skipped.
If automatic mode is on, moving the gear selector to the + or - position will change the Easytronic transmission to manual mode and upshift or downshift accordingly. The transmission indicator will show the M symbol and the currently engaged gear.
Moving the shift lever to R
Reverse mode can only be engaged when the vehicle is stationary.
Depress the brake pedal, release the parking brake, move the shift lever to position R. Reverse will engage. The transmission indicator will show R.
When the brake is released, the car will start moving.
It is also possible to start in reverse without applying the brakes by depressing the accelerator pedal immediately after moving the shift lever. If you do not press it, the transmission will not turn on (the R symbol flashes). Shift the shift lever to the N position and start driving by first applying the brake and then moving the shift lever to the R position.
Electronic Driving Modes
In automatic mode temperature control program after a cold start by switching delay (at high speed) automatically quickly brings the catalyst to the temperature required for optimal reduction of harmful emissions in the exhaust.
The adaptive modes automatically match the shifting process to the driving conditions, such as when towing a trailer, with a heavy load and on slopes.
When the mode is turned on «SPORT» shift times are shortened and shifting occurs at higher rpm (if the speed controller is not enabled).
Forced Downshift
Depressing the accelerator pedal below the point of resistance causes the transmission to downshift at speeds below a certain value. To accelerate, full engine power must be used.
Note. When depressing the accelerator pedal, manual gear shifting is not possible.
In the engine speed range close to the upper limit, the transmission shifts to a higher gear when the accelerator pedal is depressed, even in manual mode.
Without depressing the accelerator pedal, this automatic shift in manual mode will not take place.
When pulling away in the mode «SPORT» with a forced downshift, the drive wheels slip slightly. This ensures maximum vehicle acceleration.
Additional engine braking
Auto mode.
When descending, the Easytronic gearbox only shifts up at higher speeds. When braking, the Easytronic transmission downshifts in a timely manner.
Manual mode.
To use the engine's braking capabilities when descending, shift to a lower gear in good time.
Stop
In both automatic and manual modes, when the car is stopped, first gear is automatically engaged (with winter mode on - second gear) and the clutch disengages. In position R, reverse gear remains engaged.
If the driver's door is opened while the engine is running and the brake pedal is not depressed, a warning horn sounds: move the gear lever to position N and apply the parking brake.
When stopping on a hill, be sure to apply the parking brake or depress the main brake pedal. Do not keep the vehicle in gear by revving the engine to prevent the transmission from overheating.
When excessive heat is applied, the clutch automatically engages.
For longer stops, such as in a traffic jam or at a level crossing, turn off the engine.
Parking a car
Apply the parking brake before exiting the vehicle, then remove the key from the ignition.
Last gear engaged (indication on the transmission indicator) remains enabled. In position N the gear is not engaged.
After the ignition is switched off, the Easytronic transmission no longer responds to the movements of the gear lever.
If the ignition key is left on, the battery may be discharged if the vehicle is parked for a long time.
If the parking brake is not applied, the parking brake warning light will flash for a few seconds after the ignition is turned off.
If the driver's door is opened with the engine off and the parking brake not applied, a warning horn will sound and the same indicator will flash. In this case, turn on the ignition, turn on the gear, then turn off the ignition and apply the parking brake.
Pulling the car when slipping
To pull out a vehicle stuck in sand, mud, snow, or a ditch, with the accelerator pedal lightly depressed, move the shift lever back and forth between R and A (or «+» And «–»). If possible, keep the engine at a low speed and avoid jerking when pressing the accelerator pedal.
Note. Use the method described above only in the indicated exceptional cases.
Precise maneuvering
For precise maneuvering, for example, when parking, driving into a garage, etc., you can use the property «sliding» in gear when the main brake pedal is released.
Never depress the accelerator and brake pedal at the same time.
To protect against damage to the Easytronic transmission when the clutch overheats, the function «sliding» turns off automatically.
