Remember that gasoline is a highly flammable liquid! Observe all applicable fire safety precautions when working on power system components. Do not smoke! Do not approach the place of work with an open flame or carrying an unprotected lampshade! Do not service the system in rooms equipped with natural gas-fired heaters equipped with a pilot flame (such as water heaters and clothes dryers). Do not forget that gasoline is classified as a carcinogen, i.e., substances that contribute to the development of cancer! Try to prevent fuel from getting into open areas of the body - use rubber protective gloves, in case of accidental unforeseen contact with fuel, wash your hands thoroughly with warm water and soap. Clean up spilled fuel immediately and do not store fuel-soaked rags near open flames. Remember that the fuel injection system of models equipped with fuel injection is constantly under pressure. Relieve any residual pressure in the system before attempting to disconnect fuel lines. Wear safety goggles when servicing power system components. Keep a class B fire extinguisher handy at all times!
The lines of the fuel path of the power supply system are laid between the gas tank and the engine compartment. Steel tubes and flexible fuel hoses are attached to the underbody of the vehicle with clips and screw fasteners. Every time the vehicle is lifted off the ground for any purpose (e.g. to inspect or replace exhaust system components), try to take the opportunity to check the condition of the fuel lines and their fittings.
Carefully inspect all hoses and tubes of the fuel path for cracks, twists, deformations and other mechanical damage.
If signs of internal contamination or obstruction are detected, the corresponding section of the fuel path must be removed and blown out with compressed air.
Make sure that all fitting connections of hoses and metal tubes of the fuel path are securely tightened.
Steel tubes
Use only high-strength steel tubes from reputable automotive manufacturers as replacement sections.
Remember that copper and aluminum tubes are not able to withstand the vibration loads that occur during the operation of the car.
Do not forget that the fuel lines on models equipped with an injection system must withstand high internal pressure.
Often in company stores of automotive accessories you can buy sections of metal tubes equipped with threaded fitting nozzles. Use two wrenches when loosening and tightening bar connections to avoid turning the mating connector. Be sure to check the condition of the O-rings used for sealing the nipple connections. Replace worn or mechanically damaged rings immediately. Try to use only branded parts as replacement components.
Flexible hoses
When replacing fuel hoses, use only genuine high pressure parts.
The flexible fuel hoses must be routed no closer than 10cm from the exhaust system components and no closer than 25cm from the catalytic converter. Keep fuel lines away from bodywork and suspension components. The minimum allowable gap is 6.3 mm.
Replacement
1. Relieve the pressure in the supply system (see Section Relieving pressure in the power supply system of gasoline engines).
2. Release the section of the fuel path to be dismantled from the intermediate clamps securing it to the bottom of the vehicle.
3. In most cases, flexible hoses are attached to metal lines with spring-type clamps. To release the clamp, squeeze it with pliers and slide it up the hose. A clamp deformed when released cannot be reused and must be replaced. Make sure that when connecting the hose is pulled over the tube by at least 2.5 cm, install the mounting clamp correctly.
4. Some choke assemblies use quick connectors - to release such a connector, squeeze its locking tabs and pull the connected lines in different directions
Squeeze the locking tabs..
... and release the latch
Unless necessary, do not remove the connector housing from the fitting part of the metal tube, as this leads to a weakening of the holding force developed by it.
Quick dock connectors are not subject to refurbishment and in the event of their failure, the corresponding section of the line must be replaced as an assembly.
5. Installation is carried out in the reverse order. On quick connect connectors, make sure both locking tabs snap into place in the receiving grooves.
Repair
In case of damage to a metal or flexible fuel line, the failed section should be replaced only with a branded one of the appropriate size.
