The timing belt must be removed when the engine is cold!
Do not crank the engine with the timing belt removed!
You will need a new camshaft gear bolt
Removing
1. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.
2. Remove the air filter with supply hose.
3. On engine 1.7 l remove the engine mounts.
4. Remove the accessory drive belt (see chapter Vehicle settings and routine maintenance).
5. Turn out bolts of fastening and remove the top cover of a gear belt.
6. Set the piston of the first cylinder to the TDC position (see Section Procedures for repairing diesel engines without removing them from the vehicle).
7. If the removed belt will be installed again in the future, mark the direction of rotation of the engine on it with a felt-tip pen (clockwise).
8. Loosen the tension roller (arrows) and disconnect its spring

9. Remove the toothed belt from the injection pump pulley.
10. Remove the crankshaft pulley. To do this, while holding the crankshaft by the central mounting bolt with a spanner wrench, unscrew the mounting bolts.

11. Turn out bolts of fastening and remove the bottom cover of a gear belt.
12. Remove a gear belt.

1. Raise the engine using the KM-263-B tool and chain Instead of the specified tool, you can use a suitable pipe by installing it on wooden blocks on the wing ledges.

2. Turn out bolts of fastening of a damping support of the engine to the holder.

3. Turn out bolts of fastening of a damping support of the engine to a longitudinal beam of a forward frame. After that, clean the threads with a wire brush to remove any remaining sealant.
4. Turn out bolts of fastening of the holder of support of the engine from the block of the engine.
5. Installation is carried out in the reverse order to the dismantling of the components. Tighten fasteners to the required torque. Pre-lubricate the thread with a sealant, for example, OPEL-15 10 177.
Installation
Before installing the toothed belt, check that the mark on the crankshaft pulley matches the pointer on the cylinder block. At the same time, the fixing bolts in the gears of the camshaft and injection pump must be screwed in. To check, you can temporarily install the crankshaft pulley.
1. Put on a gear belt according to the scheme of its laying.

If the old belt is installed, observe the direction of its movement.
2. Tighten bolts of fastening of the bottom cover of a gear belt with effort 10 Nm.
3. Install the crankshaft pulley and tighten the bolts of its fastening with force 20 Nm.
4. Turn out lock bolts of provision ВМТ.
5. Hook the tension roller spring, thereby tensioning the toothed belt.
In this case, the crankshaft must be in a position corresponding to the TDC position of the piston of the first cylinder.
6. Install the tension roller and tighten its fasteners with force 20 Nm. In this case, first tighten the bolt (A), and then the nut (IN).

7. Turn the crankshaft two full turns in the direction of engine rotation so that the piston of the first cylinder stops at TDC.
Rotate the crankshaft smoothly to prevent the belt teeth from jumping. Temporarily insert the fixing bolts and check the TDC position.
8. Check the fuel injection timing (see chapter Power supply systems, release and reduction of toxicity of exhaust gases).
9. Further installation is carried out in the reverse order to the dismantling of the components.
