Attention: Depressurization of the fuel system must be carried out before servicing any of its components in order to minimize the risk of fuel ignition and personal injury!
2. On the Z18XE engine, first remove the engine top cover (see chapter 2), and on the Z20LE engine (L/R) Disconnect the air intake and crankcase ventilation hose.
3. Remove the protective cap (see resist. illustration) service connector (for checking the operating pressure in the fuel supply system).
4. Install a pressure tester for the fuel system (KM-J-34730-91) (see resist. illustration) and lower the drain hose into a suitable container prepared in advance. Open the drain cock and release the fuel pressure, some fuel will drain into the container.
Attention: For Z22YH engine (with direct injection) in this way only the low-pressure circuit can be depressurized (up to 4.2 bar)! high (up to 110 bar) pressure is maintained in the fuel pipes supplying fuel from the injection pump directly to the injectors. High pressure relief requires special equipment.
5. At the end of the operation, disconnect the device and screw on the protective cap.
6. If there is no special device available, you can proceed as follows: make sure that the ignition is turned off, remove the cover from the mounting block installed in the engine compartment. Remove the fuel pump relay from your seat (see Applications).
7. Start the engine, wait for it to stop spontaneously, then crank the starter for another 5 seconds to be sure that the pressure in the fuel lines is relieved. Switch off the ignition and reinsert the fuel pump relay.
