2. Various elements and pipelines of its systems are located on top of the engine. Depending on the type and configuration of the engine, this may be a fuel distribution line, high-pressure pipes of the fuel system, an ignition module, various types of supply hoses, cable lines, etc., which is especially typical for diesel engines. These elements form a complex configuration and do not allow for a high-quality procedure for cleaning the engine surface from dust and dirt, although these systems are the most sensitive to contamination. Despite the misconception of many, the cover not only gives the engine a more presentable appearance, but also serves to reduce the degree of contamination and prevents accidental damage to the pipelines. Almost all diesel engines and gasoline engines with a working volume of 1.8 liters are equipped with an upper protective and decorative cover - do not forget to install it in its regular place after completing the work.

3. The engine cover is installed on spherical supports fixed to various elements of the engine assembly (see accompanying illustration).

Note: Z17DT(L/H) engines only have 3 mounting points.
The tight fit is ensured by rubber sealing supports.
4. To remove the cover, simply pull it up with sufficient force - the rubber seals should remain on the cover, otherwise remove them manually and install them in the corresponding slots on the cover.
5. To install, align the mounting sockets with the rubber seals of the top cover with ball-shaped tips and press on the cover until it is fixed on the supports - the cover should fit tightly to the mating surfaces.

6. This engine uses mounting screws to secure the cover instead of the two front ball bearings (see accompanying illustration).

7. To remove the cover, unscrew the screws, disconnect the ventilation hose from the mount on the engine cover, remove the oil filler cap and remove the cover from the two rear ball joints (see illustration 2.3). Replace the oil filler cap to prevent dirt from entering the opening.
8. Install the cover in the reverse order, tighten the screws with the required force.

9. To remove the cover, you must first remove the oil filler cap. Unscrew the fastening screws (see accompanying illustration). Lift the cover slightly by the rear edge and slide it horizontally forward (to the radiator), then disconnect from the front rubber holders. Install the oil filler cap in place.

10. Install the cover in the reverse order, tighten the screws with the required force.
