1. Raise the rear of the vehicle and place on stands. Remove the wheel.
2. Release the handbrake.
3. Loosen the screws and remove the drum (see photo). If the drum cannot be removed, then the pads should be brought together. To do this, remove the plug from the hole in the brake shield. Insert a screwdriver into the hole and remove the parking brake pad drive lever.
If necessary, loosen the parking brake cable adjusting nut.
4. Carefully clean the drum. Check the drum for cracks and signs of wear.
Check the condition of the inner surface; if there are traces of deep wear, the drum must be replaced. If a shoulder has formed on the inner surface due to the friction of the pads, then both drums should be ground to the same diameter. If, after grinding, the inner diameter of the drum exceeds the maximum allowable, then replace both drums complete with pads.
5. Install the drum in reverse order. When finished, spread the pads by depressing the brake pedal several times. Adjust parking brake (if the adjusting nut is loosened).
