Vacuum brake booster — checking, removal and installation (Opel Astra G)

Examination



1. Press the brake pedal several times. While holding the brake pedal, start the engine, the brake pedal should go down. After two minutes, turn off the engine. Press the brake pedal. With each successive press, the pedal will become "harder" and the pedal travel should decrease.

2. Otherwise, check the brake booster check valve (see below).

3. If the vacuum booster still does not operate normally, it should be replaced.

Removal Models with ABS System



4. Remove the ABS valve block.

5. Remove the clutch master cylinder (Chapter 6).

6. Disconnect the vacuum hose from the vacuum booster.

7. Remove the driver's side lower trim, disconnect the brake pedal spring, remove the cotter pin and pedal shaft.

8. Unscrew the nuts from the interior side (top left and bottom right) and remove the vacuum booster by taking it out of the engine compartment.

Models without ABS system



9. Remove the brake master cylinder.

10. Disconnect the vacuum hose from the vacuum booster.

11. Remove the fuse panel bracket, disconnect the connectors on the bracket.

12. Unscrew the nuts of the fittings and remove the brake hydraulic lines that interfere with the removal of the vacuum booster.

13. Remove the lower trim panels on the driver's side, disconnect the brake pedal spring, remove the cotter pin and remove the pedal shaft.

14. Unscrew the nuts from the interior side (top left and bottom right) and remove the vacuum booster by taking it out of the engine compartment.

15. Installation of the vacuum booster is performed in reverse order.
