Rear Brake Caliper — Removal and Installation (Opel Astra G)

Removal



1. Raise the rear of the car and place it on stands. Remove the wheel.

2. After unscrewing the adjusting nut, release the handbrake cable casing, disconnect the cable from the brake shoe drive lever, and remove the cable casing from the bracket on the caliper.

3. To reduce fluid loss, tighten the tank cap tightly, placing a polyethylene film underneath it, or pinch the hose. Clean the hose ring fitting and unscrew the bolt, plug the holes in the hose and caliper. Remove the two gaskets.

4. Remove the pads and disconnect the caliper from the upper pivot joint (see photo).

5. If necessary, unscrew the bolt and remove the bracket (see photo).

6. The support cannot be disassembled and is replaced entirely.



7. The support is installed in the reverse order (see photo). When finished, spread the pads by pressing the brake pedal several times. Adjust the parking brake.
