Attention! Do not use leaded gasoline for refueling a vehicle equipped with a catalytic converter on gasoline models - the lead contained in it in high concentrations is deposited on the surfaces of the converter's working element, significantly reducing its operating efficiency and service life!
The catalytic converter is a highly effective element of the exhaust gas toxicity reduction system and is included in the exhaust system. Inside the converter's working element, the exhaust gases are "afterburned" at high temperature in order to reduce the level of toxic components in them.
Ensure that the engine settings and adjustments are correct. Deviations in the setting of operating parameters of the ignition, fuel injection and engine management systems can lead to a dangerous over-enrichment of the air-fuel mixture, leading to the inevitable overheating of the catalytic converter. If misfires occur, the operation of the car should be suspended until the causes of the malfunction are eliminated, since fuel that does not burn in the cylinders invariably gets into the converter, where it can easily ignite (for the same reason, starting the engine by towing or pushing should be avoided). Do not forget to monitor fuel consumption, not allowing it to run out completely, which is usually associated with the occurrence of misfires. When driving in forced idle mode (for example, when descending or braking) the fuel supply is automatically switched off if the gas or clutch pedal is not depressed. However, at high catalyst temperatures, this mode is deactivated to protect it from damage.
If a fault occurs in the engine management system, the corresponding indicator lamp lights up on the instrument cluster - follow the recommendations provided.
