General information
The operating principle and design of the brake system components are discussed in detail in Chapter 9 of this Manual. All brake system components are of the utmost importance in terms of ensuring safe driving. Perform vehicle maintenance procedures regularly in accordance with the established Schedule. First 200 km (125 miles) after replacing the brake pads, try to avoid sudden braking if possible.
The wear of the brake pads should not exceed a certain value. Brake pads worn to a minimum level cause a characteristic squeak - you can continue driving, but contact a service station as soon as possible.
Note: Contact sensors are integrated in the front brake linings when equipped appropriately. If the linings are worn out, the corresponding icon is displayed in the service display field (see Section 16).
When driving downhill, to avoid overheating of the brakes, try to brake the car with the engine, including a low gear for this. After heavy rain, overcoming water obstacles or washing the car, before starting to move at full speed, check the efficiency of the brakes - wet linings and discs can be quickly dried during several brakings when driving at low speed. When towing a faulty vehicle, do not forget that when the engine is turned off, the vacuum brake booster stops functioning, due to which each press of the foot brake pedal requires the application of significantly more force.
In case of brake failure while driving, braking is permitted using the parking brake - remember that the braking distance in this case increases significantly.
Warning! Using the parking brake while driving at normal speed may result in loss of control, so please act as carefully as possible!
Warning! Do not keep your foot on the brake pedal while driving - this is associated with the risk of overheating the brake mechanisms and premature wear of the pads, and can also negatively affect the length of the braking distance!
Emergency braking function
If you press the brake pedal sharply and strongly in case of an emergency stop, the brakes are automatically applied with maximum force under the control of ABS. In order to minimize the braking distance, do not release the pressure on the brake pedal until you have come to a complete stop.
Parking brake
The parking brake lever is located on the center console between the front seats.
