General information
The principle of operation and design of the components of the brake system are discussed in detail in Chapter 9 of this manual. All components of the braking system are essential for driving safety. Regularly, in accordance with the established Schedule, perform vehicle maintenance procedures 200 km (125 miles) mileage after replacing the brake pads, try to avoid sudden braking if possible.
Brake pad wear should not exceed a certain value. Brake pads worn to a minimum level cause a characteristic squeak - you can continue driving, but contact a service station as soon as possible.
Note: Contact sensors are integrated into the front brake pads if equipped. When the pads are worn, the corresponding icon is displayed in the field of the service indication display (see Section 16).
When driving downhill, in order to avoid overheating of the brake mechanisms, try to brake the car with the engine, including a lower gear for this. After heavy rain, overcoming water obstacles or washing the car, before driving at full speed, check the effectiveness of the brake mechanisms - wet linings and discs can be quickly dried during several braking at low speed. When towing a disabled vehicle, do not forget that when the engine is turned off, the operation of the vacuum brake booster stops, which means that each press on the foot brake pedal requires a noticeably greater effort.
In the event of brake failure while driving, braking with the parking brake is allowed - remember that the braking distance in this case increases significantly.
Attention! Using the parking brake when the vehicle is moving at normal speed can cause you to lose control of the vehicle, try to be as careful as possible!
Attention! Do not keep your foot on the brake pedal while driving - this is associated with the risk of overheating of the brake mechanisms and premature wear of the pads, and can also adversely affect the length of the braking distance!
Emergency braking function
If the brake pedal is pressed sharply and strongly, in case of an emergency stop, braking is automatically performed with maximum gain under the control of ABS. To minimize the stopping distance, do not release pressure on the brake pedal until it comes to a complete stop.
Parking brake
The parking brake lever is located on the center console between the front seats.
