- A cast iron exhaust manifold is attached to the cylinder head.
- This is followed by the front exhaust pipe, which in the model with 8-valve engine 1.6 l is made as a single pipe. The 16V engines have a double pipe that narrows into a single pipe at the bottom of the vehicle.
- The next step is the catalytic converter. It is described in detail in chapter «Reduced exhaust emissions».
- This is followed by an intermediate and additional muffler. They are connected to each other by a long piece of pipe, which is welded to the intermediate muffler.
Exhaust system nodes in Vectra. On the left is a design for an 8-valve engine, on the right is a version of the 16V models. The numbers indicate:
1 - additional muffler;
2 - intermediate muffler;
3 - front exhaust pipe with catalytic converter;
4 - bracket.
On the 1.6L 8-valve Vectra, the front exhaust pipe is bolted to the exhaust manifold and loaded with springs. This elastic connection prevents the occurrence of vibration cracks.
On right:The arrows show three of the four mounting bolts that secure the front exhaust pipe to the exhaust manifold on models with a 16V engine.
