The photo on the left shows the EGR valve (arrow) in the 8-valve Vectra 1.6 liter engine. The exhaust gas recirculation valve is visible on the right (arrow) engine 16V 1.6 l.
secondary air pump (arrow) in vehicles with 16V engines, it is installed in the front left in the engine compartment.
Idle switch contact in throttle potentiometer; it ensures that at idle and over idle the exhaust gases are not recirculated.
Coolant Temperature Sensor: When the engine is cold, no recirculation is needed. During the warm-up phase, a reduced amount of exhaust gases is vented back.
Pulse encoder for speed signal for shutting off EGR at speeds above 3,000 rpm.
The EGR valve with pulse sensor opens the way for recirculated exhaust gases to the intake manifold, while the position of the valve is currently sent to the ignition/injection control unit.
The ignition/injection control unit, depending on the need, through two solenoid valves, sends a switch-on signal to the EGR valve (taking into account the mentioned information at the input).
Tip: Malfunctions in the operation of exhaust gas recirculation are almost invisible from engine malfunctions. Preventive control is not provided. In case of doubt, you should contact the Opel workshop with its control devices.
