Engine ventilation (Opel Vectra B)

            0

Even a properly functioning engine blows more than 50 liters of exhaust gases per minute past the piston rings into the crankcase. In order to prevent the engine gaskets from being subjected to too much stress or even to prevent engine parts from tearing, the pressure in the engine must be released. This is done by crankcase ventilation. Toxic gases from the engine are diverted to the intake manifold to protect the environment. From there, the gases are sucked back into the engine for complete combustion.

The ventilation hose is screwed on top of the cylinder head cover. If necessary, you can check whether there is any oil residue in this hose. It can be washed off with gasoline

Tip: The greater the loss of pressure during combustion, or more precisely: the greater the wear of the pistons, piston rings and cylinder working surfaces, the stronger the pumping by the running engine through the crankcase ventilation. The loss of pressure is also clearly visible when the oil filler pipe is open. Professionals can determine the degree of engine wear by the amount of air expelled.
