- Look at the engine from top to bottom.
- Slightly oily areas are not a cause for concern, all engines are slightly oily from time to time «sweat» grease.
- But the cause of oil stains under a parked car and abundant oiling
- Wash the engine with engine detergent and dry it with a steam jet.
- After driving a few kilometers to test, see where the oil flows out.
Left: Oil pressure switch (bottom right on the engine) using the oil pressure warning light on the dashboard, it signals whether there is enough oil pressure in the engine bearings.
On right: On the lower right side of the engine is the pressure control valve (arrow). It prevents too much pressure build-up when the engine oil is cold and still viscous.
Possible Leak Locations
Here we list the points in a Vectra engine where oil can escape:
- Crankshaft and camshaft gasket (s) shaft (ov)
- Gaskets on the cylinder head cover
- Camshaft housing gasket (8 valve engine)
- Cylinder head gasket
- Decoupling point of the DIS ignition module
- Oil pressure switch.
- Pressure control valve
- Oil filter gasket.
- Crankcase gasket.
- Crankshaft gasket (oil leaks in the connector between the engine and the gearbox housing).
Tip: Some gas stations have self-service steam jets that drop coins. If you take an engine cleaner with you, then flushing the engine will cost you very little. Be sure to bring your work clothes.
