- Inspect the engine from top to bottom.
- Slightly oily areas are not a cause for concern, all engines "sweat" a little grease from time to time.
- Here is the reason for oil stains under a parked car and heavy oiling
- Wash the engine with engine cleaner and dry it with a steam cleaner.
- After driving a few kilometers, look at where the oil is leaking.
Left: Oil pressure switch (on the bottom right of the engine) the oil pressure indicator light on the instrument panel indicates whether there is sufficient oil pressure in the engine bearings.
Right: On the lower right side of the engine there is a pressure control valve (arrow). It prevents the pressure from increasing too much when the engine oil is cold and still viscous.
Possible leak locations
Here we list the points in the Vectra engine where oil may leak:
- Crankshaft and camshaft gasket
- Cylinder head cover gaskets
- Gasket on the camshaft housing (8-valve engine)
- Cylinder head gasket
- DIS ignition module disconnect point
- Oil pressure switch.
- Pressure regulating valve
- Oil filter gasket.
- Crankcase gasket.
- Crankshaft gasket (oil leaks from the gap between the engine and the gearbox housing).
Tip: Some gas stations have self-service steam jets that accept coins. If you bring your own engine cleaner, flushing your engine will be very inexpensive. Be sure to bring work clothes.
