When the maximum number of revolutions is exceeded, which varies for individual engines, the valve springs begin to oscillate so much that the perfect opening and closing of the valves is no longer ensured. The valve springs can break, which leads to the valve hitting the piston and causing severe damage. To prevent this from happening, the ignition/injection control unit blocks the fuel supply at excessive revolutions - the number of revolutions drops again.
