Factory anti-corrosion measures
Body parts that are not sufficiently protected against corrosion due to their shape are made of sheet metal, galvanized on one or both sides. Such details in Vectra include doors, hood, channels and areas of vertically arranged metal sheets. Parts exposed to less danger are coated with an anti-corrosion primer.
Corrosion-prone, bent edges of the moving parts of the body are sealed with a PVC sealing compound, and a special primer by spot welding is placed on individual welds. The finished raw body is degreased and phosphated, whereby this protective film penetrates into the cavities and at the same time forms a primer for the next coat of varnish. In dip priming, the ground paint is applied in an electrically conductive bath by cataphoresis. Then, areas of the underbody that are at particular risk are provided with an anti-corrosion coating, which is made on the basis of polyvinyl chloride and synthetic resin. After the final varnishing, the channels are waxed from the inside with a spray gun, the wax serves as a water-repellent agent for the engine compartment and for the frame. Wheel niches have protective liners made of polyvinyl chloride.
Warranty for paintwork and body parts
Opel's one-year warranty on new vehicles also covers paint damage and corrosion, if proven to be due to manufacturing faults.
- The warranty does not cover damage to the lacquer from stone impact - i.e. as a result of external influences - or as a result of improper treatment with unsuitable care products.
- The anti-corrosion coating of the bottom, damaged by stone impacts or contact with the road, must not be left, it must be restored.
- If the new parts are not professionally varnished or rust protected during an accident repair, Opel cannot be held responsible.
