1. Plunger
2. Spring
3. Washer
4. Bolt
Removing
1. Remove the toothed belt.
2. Remove the rear toothed belt cover.
3. Remove the oil pan and oil receiver pipe with strainer.
4. Disconnect the electrical connector from the oil pressure sensor.
5. On 1.6L engines, unscrew the crankshaft sensor mounting bolt and move it away from the oil pump.
6. Unscrew the bolts and remove the oil pump from the end of the crankshaft. Remove the oil pump gasket.
Repair
1. Unscrew the screws and remove the oil pump cover.
2. Using a marker, mark the relative position of the inner and outer rotors of the oil pump.
3. Remove the inner and outer oil pump rotor from the housing.
4. Unscrew the bolt securing the safety valve to the pump housing and remove the spring and plunger from the housing.
5. Thoroughly clean all parts of the oil pump and check their condition. If there is wear on the rotor or oil pump housing, the pump must be replaced as an assembly.
6. Check the gap between the teeth of the inner and outer rotor. Using a metal ruler, check the end play of the oil pump rotors.
7. Measure the end play of the oil pump rotors.
8. The pump is assembled in the reverse order of disassembly, taking into account the following points:
- install the rotors in the pump in accordance with the marks previously applied;
- install a new sealing ring on the pressure relief valve mounting bolt;
- tighten the screws securing to the pump cover to the required torque;
- while rotating the inner rotor, fill the pump with clean engine oil.
Installation
1. Remove the crankshaft seal from the oil pump housing. Using a drift, install a new crankshaft O-ring. Lubricate the sealing lips with clean engine oil.
2. Check that the mating surfaces of the oil pump and cylinder block are clean and dry and that the guide pins are in the engine block.
3. Install a new gasket on the engine block.
4. Install the oil pump on the crankshaft, while aligning the inner rotor with the edges of the crankshaft (2). Do not damage the O-ring at the end of the crankshaft (1).
5. Secure the oil pump with bolts, tightening them to the required torque.
6. On 1.6L engines, attach the crankshaft sensor to the oil pump housing.
7. Connect the oil pressure sensor electrical connector.
8. Install the oil receiver pipe with strainer and oil pan.
9. Install the rear toothed belt guard.
10. Install timing belt pulleys, idler pulleys and tensioner. Install the toothed belt.
11. Install a new oil filter and fill the engine with engine oil.
