Removing
1. Remove the ground wire from the battery.
2. Raise the front of the car and secure it on stands.
3. Drain the engine oil, install a new washer and install a drain plug in the oil pan.
1.6L engines
4. Remove the front exhaust pipe.
5. Disconnect the electrical connector from the oil level sensor.
6. Remove the bolts securing the oil pan lug to the transaxle case.
7. To access the oil pan mounting bolts, remove the rubber plugs covering the bolts.
8. Gradually and sequentially unscrew the bolts securing the oil pan to the engine block. Remove the oil pan and gasket.
9. Unscrew bolts and remove a tube of an oil receiver with the mesh filter. Rinse the strainer.
Engines 1.8 and 2.0 l
10. Disconnect the electrical connector from the engine oil level sensor.
11. Unscrew the bolts securing the lower part of the oil pan to the main pan block and remove it along with the gasket.
12. To remove the main oil pan assembly from the engine, remove the oil filter.
13. Remove the front exhaust pipe.
14. Remove the bolts securing the protrusion of the main sump block to the transaxle case.
15. Gradually unscrew the bolts securing the main sump block to the cylinder block. Remove the oil pan main block along with the gasket.
Warning! On some models, it may be necessary to disconnect the right drive shaft from the transmission in order to remove the main oil pan assembly.
16. Unscrew the bolts and remove the oil pick-up tube along with the mesh filter.
Installation
1. Clean all traces of dirt and oil from the mating surfaces of the oil pan and cylinder block.
1.6L engines
2. Install a new O-ring to the top of the oil pickup tube. Coat the threads of the bolts with an anti-tightening agent and screw the oil receiver pipe to the oil pump.
3. Apply a thin coat of sealant to the surface of the cylinder block near the oil pump and rear main main bearing cap (places of application of sealant are indicated by strands).
4. Install a new gasket on the oil pan. Coat the threads of the bolts with an anti-loose agent and screw in the oil pan mounting bolts, working from the center in a diagonal sequence.
5. Screw in the bolts securing the protrusion of the oil pan to the gearbox housing.
6. Install the front exhaust pipe and reconnect the oil level sensor electrical connector.
7. Lower the vehicle to the ground and fill the engine with engine oil.
Engines 1.8 and 2.0 l
Warning! When installing the oil pan, new bolts must be used.
8. Install a new O-ring on top of the oil pickup pipe. Install the oil pickup pipe to the oil pump and secure with bolts.
9. Apply a thin bead of sealant to the bottom of the cylinder block in the area where the oil pump and rear main bearing cap are located.
10. Install a new gasket on the oil pan main block and apply an anti-loose agent to the threads of the oil pan bolts.
11. Install the main oil pan assembly to the cylinder block and secure with the bolts, tightening them from the center in a diagonal sequence.
12. Bolt the protrusion of the main oil pan block to the transaxle case.
13. Install the front exhaust pipe and, where necessary, connect the drive shaft to the gearbox.
14. Check that the mating surfaces of the main pan block and bottom pan are clean and dry. Install the lower oil pan with a new gasket onto the oil pan main block and secure it with new bolts.
15. Install a new oil filter and connect the electrical connector to the oil level sensor.
