2. On vehicles with 1.7L engines, raise the front of the vehicle and support it on stands.

3. Unscrew the vacuum hose from the vacuum pump.

7. Remove the O-ring (arrow) from the alternator on 1.7L engines or from the groove in the pump on 2.0L engines.

Installation

Installation is performed in the reverse order of removal. Before installing the vacuum pump on a 1.7 L engine, pour 5 cm³ of oil into the pump through the oil supply nipple.

Examination

The performance of the brake system vacuum pump can be checked using a vacuum gauge.

1. Disconnect the vacuum line from the pump and connect a vacuum gauge in its place.

2. Run the engine in idle mode. Measure the vacuum created by the pump. After 1 minute of engine operation, the vacuum should be about 500 mm Hg. If the vacuum created by the pump does not correspond to the required data, replace the pump completely, since spare parts for the pump are not supplied.
