Models with rear drum brakes
1. Raise the rear of the car and secure it on stands.
2. To check the handbrake adjustment, fully release it. Press the brake pedal several times to set the normal working clearance between the brake shoes and the drum. Apply the handbrake several times to properly set the automatic handbrake adjustment mechanism.
3. To check that the handbrake is adjusted correctly, tighten the handbrake lever to the stop and count the number of clicks, which should be 7. If the number of clicks differs from the specified one, it is necessary to adjust as follows.
4. Remove the handbrake guard from the center console and remove it by sliding over the handbrake lever to access the adjusting nut.
5. Tighten the handbrake 5 clicks and turn the adjusting nut until the rear wheels of the vehicle are still free to turn.
6. Tighten the handbrake lever 7 clicks and check that both rear wheels are braked. If necessary, repeat the adjustment process.
7. Install the protective cover and lower the vehicle.
Models with rear disc brakes
1. Raise the rear of the car and secure it on stands.
2. Release the handbrake lever, then tighten it 7 clicks. Check that both rear wheels are braked.
3. If adjustment is necessary, fully release the handbrake, remove the handbrake guard from the center console and remove it along the handbrake lever to access the adjusting nut. Remove the nut at the end of the front handbrake cable.
4. Remove both rear wheels.
5. Rotate the brake disc so that the hole in the disc is against the adjusting bar. Insert a screwdriver through the hole in the brake disc and fully depress the hand brake pads by turning the adjusting ring.
6. After the disc is completely braked by the brake pads, turn the adjusting ring in the opposite direction by 5-6 teeth, as a result of which the brake disc should rotate freely. Repeat the steps to adjust the brake pad clearance on the second wheel.
7. Inside the vehicle, tighten the adjusting nut on the handbrake lever (the figure shows the location of the nut) and tighten the handbrake 7 clicks. Check if the rear wheels are locked. If adjustment is necessary, release the handbrake and repeat the adjustment by turning the adjusting nut.
8. Install the rear wheels, install the handbrake lever guard and lower the vehicle.
