Note: Models from August 1983 are equipped with an automatic rear brake shoe adjuster. Handbrake adjustment is only necessary if the handbrake lever or cable is replaced.
Raise the handbrake lever by 3 teeth.
Raise the rear of the vehicle using a jack.
Adjust the rear brake pads.

Pull the rod down in the area of the handbrake equalizer and check the rod for ease of movement.

Adjust the handbrake using the nut on the handbrake equalizer.
Tighten the self-locking nut until there is direct braking effect on the rear wheels.
But both rear wheels must have the same braking effect.
