Removal and installation the wheel brake cylinder (Opel Kadett D)

If you do not need to change the wheel brake cylinder, you can remove it assembled. In any case, you must first remove the brake pads. Wheel brake cylinders should be repaired at the latest when there is a leak of brake fluid. To check, remove the dust boots and look into the cylinder. If there is moisture behind the dust boot, or the entire cylinder is in brake fluid, it should be repaired. Repair is also required when the piston does not move easily in the cylinder. In one of these cases, the wheel does not brake when braking, or brakes constantly.

Caution: The grooved cylinder must be replaced.

Removal

Remove the brake drum.

Use pliers to detach the brake shoe return spring, See Figure A9892, item 16.9.



Press the brake pads outward slightly.

Unscrew the pipeline from the wheel cylinder, clean the end of the pipeline and plug it with a plug.

Remove the wheel cylinder mounting bolts from the brake shield.

Remove the cylinder from the brake shield.

Installation

Install the wheel cylinder on the brake shield and screw it on.

Carefully screw the pipe to the wheel cylinder.

Apply the brake shoe to the cylinder piston.

Attach the return spring to the brake shoes using pliers.

Install the brake drum.

Remove air from the brake system (bleed).

Adjust the rear brakes.
