1. Transmission repair is a difficult task for a car enthusiast. In addition to dismantling and installing a large number of small parts, it is necessary to accurately measure the gaps between them and, if necessary, select gaskets of the required thickness. Transmission components are often difficult to obtain and, in many cases, extremely expensive. Therefore, it is recommended to entrust the transmission bulkhead to a specialist or purchase a remanufactured unit.
2. However, a motorist with some experience may well sort out the transmission with some special tools. Work carefully and methodically so as not to miss anything.
3. The tools needed for overhaul are pliers to remove inner and outer circlips, bearing pullers, slide hammer, punch set, dial micrometer and possibly a hydraulic press. In addition, you will need a large, sturdy workbench and a vise.
4. During transmission disassembly, carefully record where each component is located to facilitate subsequent installation.
5. Before disassembling the transmission, try to identify which node is malfunctioning. Some problems may be closely related to certain transmission components - see Section "Troubleshooting.
