Removal



1. Apply the handbrake and set the lever to the "N" position.

2. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.

3. Loosen the fastening nut and remove the dipstick/filler neck.

4. Release the retaining clip, remove the washer and disconnect the shift cable from the transmission control lever.

5. Disconnect the switch wiring.

6. While holding the shaft still with pliers, loosen the nut securing the control lever to the selector shaft. Push back the locking plate and loosen the large nut and washer securing the switch to the shaft.

7. Unscrew the retainer securing the switch to the transmission.

Installation



8. When installing, make sure that the gear selector shaft is in the "N" position (third limiter from the front). Place the switch on the shaft and screw it in until the protruding part of the switch housing rests against the flattened surface of the shaft, then tighten the filler neck switch retainer to the specified tightening torque Specifications.

9. Clamp (very neat) the tightening force specified by the Specifications the large nut securing the switch to the gear selector shaft; don't forget to install the washer. Secure the nut with the locking plate.

10. To install the transmission control lever onto the gear selector shaft, hold the shaft still with pliers and tighten the nut to the specified torque Specifications.

11. When installing the dipstick/filler neck, replace the O-ring, lubricating it to make installation easier. Tighten the nut to the specified torque Specifications.

12. Connect the switch wiring and the gear shift cable, then check the cable adjustment (see below).
