Starter Replacement — Petrol Engines (Opel Insignia A)

Note: The procedure is given using a 1.4L engine as an example.


1. Open the hood.

2. Disconnect the negative battery terminal.

3. Raise and secure the vehicle.

4. Loosen the nut (2) and disconnect the positive cable (1) of the starter and generator.

4. Loosen the nut (2) and disconnect the positive cable (1) of the starter and generator.


5. Unscrew the nut (3) and remove the positive cable (4) from the starter.

6. Unscrew the nut (5) and remove the ground cable (6).

7. Unscrew the upper bolt (2) with washer (1).

7. Unscrew the upper bolt (2) with washer (1).


8. Unscrew the stud (4) with the washer (5).

9. Remove the starter (3).

10. Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal.

Note: Tightening torque of the starter mounting bolt and stud: 25 Nm. Tightening torque of the ground cable and positive starter cable: 12.5 Nm.
