Starter Replacement — Diesel Engines (Opel Insignia A)

Note: The procedure is given using a 1.7L engine as an example.


1. Open the hood.

2. Disconnect the negative battery terminal.

3. Unhook the engine control unit bracket from the battery shelf.

4. Loosen the starter bolt (1).

5. Raise and secure the vehicle.

6. Remove the exhaust gas pressure sensor pipe from the diesel particulate filter.

7. Unscrew the nut (4) and remove the positive cable of the starter and generator (3).

8. Loosen the bolt (1) and remove the positive starter cable (2).

9. Unscrew the nut (5) and remove the starter ground cable (6).

10. Unscrew the starter pin (2) and remove the starter (1).

10. Unscrew the starter pin (2) and remove the starter (1).


11. Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal.



Note.
  • Starter stud tightening torque: 60 Nm.
  • Tightening torque of the nuts of the positive starter and generator cable and the ground cable: 13 Nm.
  • Starter mounting bolt tightening torque: 38 Nm.
