Removing
1. Loosen the rear wheel bolts, block the front wheels, then jack up and jack up the rear of the vehicle. Remove wheels.
2. Remove the rear half of the exhaust system as described in Section 4C.
3. Disconnect the handbrake cables and their return springs from the handbrake control levers as described in Section 9.
4. Remove the handbrake cables from the brackets on the diagonal arms.
5. Remove the blocking brackets and release the brake pipes from the brackets on the diagonal levers. Please note that the brackets also support the ABS sensor wires (see illustration).
6. Remove the mounting bolts and remove the brake calipers and ABS sensor brackets from the brake support shields. Move the calipers and brackets of the ABS sensor to the side and tie them with twine or wire to the bottom of the car.
7. Working alternately on each side of the vehicle, support the diagonal arm of the jacks, then unscrew and remove the bolt and washer securing the lower end of the shock absorber to the diagonal arm. Lower the jack carefully and remove it as soon as the shock absorber comes out of the diagonal arm.
8. Disconnect the fuel outlet hose from the fuel filter located on the right side of the bottom in front of the fuel tank. Seal open filter and hose openings to prevent further loss of fuel and dirt from entering the system.
9. Support the rear plate of the rear suspension cross member with a jack, then unscrew and remove the two mounting bolts from the rear cross member beam.
10. Gently lower the jack supporting the rear cross member plate so that the suspension springs and their buffers can be removed. Note the correct orientation of the springs.
11. Ensure that all relevant hoses, tubes, cables and wires are offset from the rear suspension assembly.
12. Supporting the rear suspension assembly with a jack placed under the rear cross member plate, unscrew and remove the two front cross member mounting bolts. Note that the bolts also go through the cross member mounting brackets.
13. Unscrew and remove two bolts securing the cross member mounting brackets to the bottom. Then, with the help of an assistant, carefully lower the rear suspension assembly and remove it from under the vehicle (see illustration).
14. If required, disassemble the assembly as described in the relevant Chapters of this Section.
15. The front cross member bushings can be replaced using a tube or socket, nut, bolt and washers. Moisten the rear bushings with a little soapy water to make installation easier.
Installation
16. Position the rear suspension assembly under the rear of the vehicle and raise it with a jack under the rear crossmember plate.
17. Install the two rear suspension front cross member mounting bolts, making sure they pass through the cross member mounting brackets, but do not fully tighten them at this stage.
18. Establish bolts of an arm of fastening of a crossbeam to the bottom and clamp them with the tightening force regulated by Specifications, then clamp two bolts of fastening of a forward crossbar with the regulated force of an inhaling.
19. If necessary, lower the jack supporting the cross member's rear plate and install the suspension springs and their buffers between the diagonal arms and bottom.
20. Gently raise the jack supporting the rear cross member plate, then install the two rear cross member mounting bolts and tighten them to the specified torque specifications. Remove the jack.
21. Connect the fuel outlet hose to the fuel filter and tighten the clamp screw.
22. Working alternately on each side of the vehicle, jack up the diagonal arm so that the bottom bolt can be installed (with puck) shock absorber mountings. Tighten the bolts with a torque specified specifications, then remove the jack.
23. Install the brake calipers and ABS sensor brackets on the brake support shields and tighten the fastening bolts with the tightening force regulated by the Specifications.
24. Establish brake pipes in arms on diagonal levers and fix them with brackets.
25. Install the handbrake cables in their brackets on the diagonal levers and connect the cable ends and return springs to the handbrake control levers. Check cable adjustment as described in Section 9.
26. Install the rear half of the exhaust system as described in Section 4C.
27. Install the wheels and lower the vehicle to the ground. Finally tighten the wheel bolts.
