Adaptation of the ignition system to the octane number of the fuel used (Opel Vectra A)

            0

When switching to fuel with a different octane number, the operating parameters of the ignition system can be changed to ensure the calculation of the optimal ignition advance angle. This does not apply to the C20XE engine with a power of 150 hp, in which the coordination of engine operation with the octane number of the fuel is performed automatically by the computer.

The ignition timing is adjusted by moving the connector in the engine compartment of the car to another position. In this way, you can switch, for example, from leaded petrol 98 to unleaded petrol 95 or from unleaded petrol 95 to unleaded petrol 91 and vice versa, while maintaining maximum engine performance in any operating mode.

To change the coding, open the connector lock and disconnect the connector.

Rotate the connector 180°, insert it into the socket and secure it. Secure the connector so that the octane number is visible, which is stamped on the side where the connector lock is located. Changing the octane number set at the factory should only be done if fuel with a different octane number is forced to be filled. Do not use fuel with an octane number lower than the number set by the coding connector without switching it accordingly. Otherwise, engine damage may occur due to detonation.
