Removal and installation of steering rods (Opel Vectra A)

Attention! The rods have different internal threads (left and right).

Removal

Loosen the tie rod mounting bolt.

Remove the two bolt retainers from the inside of the tie rod by pressing with a screwdriver in the center of the retainer spacer clip.

Measure and record the depth of the rod screw-in or count the number of turns when unscrewing.

Disconnect the rod near the steering gear.

Disconnect the rod at the adjusting pin.

Installation

Screw the adjusting pin into the new steering rod. In doing so, maintain the size or number of turns measured during removal.

Attention! To ensure the safety of the steering gear, the screw-in depth of the stud should be approximately the same on both sides.

Attention! Pay attention to the design of the traction (left or right). The clamping bolt is screwed in from below.

Fasten the steering rod to the steering gear with a torque of 95 Nm. Lock both bolts.

Attention! Use new spacer clamps to secure the clamps.

Adjust wheel alignment (the work is done in the workshop).

Tighten the tie bolt to 20 Nm.
