Symptom/Cause (causes)
The engine gets very hot/
- Lack of coolant in the system
- Electric fan does not work
- Internal or external radiator blockage
- One of the hoses is bent, impairing coolant circulation
- Thermostat is faulty
- Engine needs adjustment
- Ignition is too late or the automatic ignition timing regulator does not work
- Cylinder head gasket leaking
- The engine has not yet broken in
- Partially clogged exhaust system
- The engine oil level is too low. The brakes are sticking.
The engine does not heat up well/
- The thermostat is faulty, of the wrong brand, or missing altogether.
- Coolant loss
- Loose hose clamps
- Hoses are damaged or leaking
- Radiator is leaking
- The expansion tank plug is leaking
- The cylinder head gasket is leaking. There is a crack in the block or cylinder head (cracks).
- The heater does not provide enough heat
- Engine too cold (see above)
- The heater core is clogged
- The heater control rods and levers are incorrectly adjusted or damaged.
