Caution: When servicing and working on cooling system components, observe safety precautions (see Section 2)! Before starting the procedure, wait until the engine has completely cooled down!
1. Drain the cooling system (see Section 3).
Note: Be careful - there may be some coolant left in the heat exchanger! Place a container underneath to collect the liquid or blow out the heat exchanger with compressed air beforehand.
2. In the engine compartment, disconnect the supply hoses (see accompanying illustration) from the heat exchanger pipes - pre-mark the hoses to ensure that they are connected correctly during assembly. Note: Branded hoses are equipped with quick-connect connectors.

3. Remove the lower instrument panel trim from the front passenger footwell side (see Chapter 11).
4. Unlock and remove the air supply hose to the passenger footwell.
5. Remove the heat exchanger pipe mounting brackets (see accompanying illustration), unscrew the screws of the mounting clamps and remove the pipes from the heat exchanger.

6. Pull the heat exchanger out of the seat in the air distributor housing and remove it from the vehicle.
7. Installation is carried out in the reverse order. When installing the pipes, use new sealing gaskets.
