Removal and installation the heater heat exchanger (Opel Astra H)

Caution: The vehicles covered in this manual are equipped with the SRS supplemental restraint system. Before performing any work near the airbag assembly or steering column, be sure to deactivate the system to avoid injury from accidental deployment (see Chapter 12).


Caution: The air conditioning system is constantly under high pressure! When performing work that may damage the refrigeration lines, discharge the air conditioning system - contact an Opel service station! Observe safety precautions when servicing the air conditioning system (see Section 1)!


Caution: When servicing and working on cooling system components, observe safety precautions (see Section 2)!


Attention: Before starting the procedure, wait until the engine has cooled down completely!


Removal



1. Drain the cooling system (see Section 3).

2. In the engine compartment, disconnect the drain pipe (see accompanying illustration) condensate drain and heater hoses from heat exchanger pipes - pre-mark the hoses to ensure that they are connected correctly during assembly.

Note: Genuine hoses are equipped with quick-connect connectors.




3. Remove the center console (see Chapter 11). On vehicles equipped with the A/C system, disconnect the air distribution hose to the rear footwells (see accompanying illustration). Unscrew the 2 mounting bolts and remove the right center console mounting bracket.

Installation



5. Installation is carried out in the reverse order of dismantling the components. When installing the heat exchanger, use the help of an assistant.
