General information
Petrol engines are equipped with an electronic injection system. DOHC engines 1.0 and 1.2 l have a Bosch-Motronic injection system, other engines are equipped with Opel's MulTec ignition and injection systems. MulTec technology is based on unified ignition and injection control via a common control unit.
Various versions of the MulTec injection system are installed. For 1.2 and 1.4 liter engines with 45 and 60 hp respectively the MulTec system is designed as a central injection system with one injector for all cylinders. The mixture is distributed among the cylinders, as in a conventional carburetor engine, through the intake manifold.
On 1.4 l engine with 82 hp. the MulTec-M system is used. Here "M" means multipoint injection (MPI). Fuel is injected through 4 injectors into the intake manifold directly before the intake valves 1.4 and 1.6 l engines with 90 hp. the amount of fuel injected for each cylinder is calculated separately (sequential injection, SFI), therefore the injection system is designated as MulTec-S.
All injection systems are highly reliable and do not require special maintenance.
Safety precautions when working with the engine management system
Remember that the fuel inside the fuel system tract is under pressure when the engine is running and the ignition is on. Residual excess pressure continues to be retained in the system for some time after the ignition is turned off and must be released before disconnecting components/disconnecting nipple connectors!
Do not touch or disconnect the ignition system high voltage wiring while the engine/starter is running.
Persons with an implanted cardiac pacemaker must under no circumstances be allowed to service ignition system components!
Connecting and disconnecting measuring instruments must also be done with the ignition off.
Disconnection of fuel lines must be carried out with the ignition off.
When checking the compression pressure in the cylinders, the fuel and ignition systems must be disconnected (see the relevant section of Chapter Engines).

Notes on Engine Management System Tests
When searching for the causes of failures, first of all, it is necessary to remove diagnostic codes from the processor memory, and also check the tightness of the vacuum line connections.
For reliable operation of all electrical elements of the system, a voltage of at least 11.5 V is required.
If after completing the search and elimination of the causes of failures the engine immediately stalls after starting, the cause of this phenomenon may be the blocking of the anti-theft system - query the processor memory, if necessary, adjust the corresponding control unit.
