The temperature sensor measures the engine temperature and reports it to the ECM. The sensor contains an element whose resistance decreases with increasing temperature. If the temperature value reaches some lower limit, error message 14 follows; if the upper limit is exceeded, error 15 is displayed. In this case, the ECM uses the coolant temperature equal to 80 degrees as a spare value. This value corresponds to a warm engine and at low ambient temperatures and a cold engine leads to starting problems and engine roughness.
To prevent coolant from leaking out when removing the sensor, first drain some of the coolant.
1. Separate a socket of electroconducting of the gauge of temperature of the engine and turn out the gauge from the inlet pipeline.
Engine Temperature Sensor Location
On a 1.4 liter engine with a power of 82 hp. The sensor is screwed into the cylinder head under the DIS ignition module. On 1.4 and 1.6 liter DOHC engines, the sensor is located on the side of the timing belt.
2. Measure the electrical resistance between the sensor contacts and compare the obtained values with the requirements of the Specifications in the Chapter Power systems, release and reduction of toxicity of exhaust gases.

3. If the resistance does not meet the requirements of the Specifications in Chapter Power supply systems, release and reduction of toxicity of exhaust gases, replace the sensor.
4. If the sensor is OK, screw it in with a new sealing ring with a force 20 Nm.
5. Turn on the ignition and measure the voltage between the sensor contacts. It must constitute 5±0.1 V. If there is no voltage, check the wiring according to the wiring diagram (see chapter Onboard electrical equipment).
6. If the wiring and sensor are OK, then the ECM is faulty.
7. Fill and bleed the cooling system (see chapter Engine cooling, interior heating and air conditioning systems).
8. Drive the car for a short time and check the temperature sensor connection for leaks, tighten it a little if necessary.
